The 5th International Conference on Power Engineering (ICPE 2024) will be held in Shanghai from December 13th to 15th, 2024. This conference is hosted by IEEE, PES, and SCIEI, organized by the School of Automation Engineering at Shanghai Electric Power University, and supported by well-known domestic and foreign universities such as the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Harbin Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Sanhe University in Quebec, Milan Polytechnic University in Italy, Ferrara University in Italy, Kunming University of Technology, Mansoura University in Egypt, and Horus University in Egypt. The conference attracted experts and scholars from multiple countries and regions around the world, with nearly 120 delegates gathered to discuss technological innovations and the latest developments in intelligent detection and control in the field of energy and power. This meeting will be conducted in a combination of online and offline formats.

The conference officially opened on the morning of December 14th. At the opening ceremony, Professor Peng Daogang, Dean of the School of Automation Engineering at Shanghai Electric Power University, and Professor Chen Hui, Vice Dean, delivered opening speeches successively. Professor Peng Daogang pointed out in his speech that under the background of the "dual carbon" goal, how to achieve "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" has become a global focus of attention. The convening of this conference is timely and of great significance, especially in promoting the development of renewable energy, building new power systems and new energy systems, which will provide important guidance for future research and practice in the field of electricity and energy. Professor Chen Hui warmly welcomed the attending representatives and provided a detailed introduction to the discipline construction of the School of Automation Engineering at Shanghai Electric Power University. She also expressed her expectations for the smooth holding of this conference and looked forward to promoting the integration and innovation of new technologies through academic exchanges. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Zhou Xin from Shanghai Electric Power University.

The keynote speech of this conference invited many well-known experts in the field, with exciting and diverse content. Professor Geng Hua, a national high-level talent, IEEE Fellow, and IET Fellow from Tsinghua University, delivered a report titled "Distributed Stability Control of Renewable Energy Conversion System", which delved into the importance of renewable energy in modern power systems, analyzed the stability challenges it faces, and shared the latest developments in related technologies. Professor Lai Laili, a national high-level talent introduction, IEEE Fellow, and IET Fellow from Guangdong University of Technology, elaborated in his report "How do Intelligent Power and Energy Systems Affect our Life?" on the widespread application of intelligent power and energy systems and their profound impact on future society and human lifestyles.

In addition, Professor Wu Yu, a national level young talent from Northwestern Polytechnical University, Professor Ni Ronggang from Qingdao University, and Associate Professor Cui Chenggang from Shanghai Electric Power University gave wonderful keynote speeches on the topics of "Key Power Technologies for Electric Propulsion Aircrafts," "Position Sensorless Control of PMSM Using Single Current Sampling," and "Intelligent Control for Power Electronics in DC Microgrid.

The conference lasted for three days and received over 200 papers from both domestic and international sources. In addition to keynote speeches and invited presentations, the conference organized various exchange activities such as 9 sub sessions, 2 poster displays, and 3 outstanding student paper competitions. Ultimately, 3 young scientists and 3 outstanding student paper awards were selected. Focusing on popular research areas such as the operation and control of new power systems, integrated energy and virtual power plants, power robots and drive systems, power energy storage systems, and power system security. The attending representatives actively participated in various discussions, stimulated innovative thinking, and promoted exchanges and cooperation among scholars from different academic backgrounds. Through these interactive activities, participants not only broadened their academic horizons, but also laid a solid foundation for future scientific cooperation and technological progress.

As one of the annual events in the field of power engineering, ICPE aims to promote the academic forefront of energy power and renewable energy, and provide a high-level exchange platform for researchers from universities, research institutes, and enterprises to share academic achievements and promote the transformation of results. The successful holding of this conference not only allowed participants to learn about the latest developments in cutting-edge technologies such as new power systems, new storage, and virtual power plants, but also deepened cross-border and interdisciplinary cooperation, accumulating valuable experience for promoting sustainable development and technological progress in the field of power engineering. The in-depth discussions of experts and scholars, the exchange of academic achievements, and the collision of technological innovations have guided new directions for the future development of the field of power engineering.
